"I have decided to devote my life to telling the story because I felt that having survived I owed something to the dead. And anyone who does not remember betrays them again." - Elie Wiesel, concentration camp survivor and human rights spokesperson.
I think this means that the people that are dead didn't die for nothing. And that the living should honor them, should always remember them. If they don't they are scorning their memory.
Also, we should learn about the Holocaust so that we don't forget it. If we forget it, then things like it will happen. They already are in Darfur and the Congo. Nothing like the Holocaust should be repeated. Ever.
